What you will learn

In the full workshop you will find different topics to be addressed like; Ashtanga Yoga in the old days, light pranayama (breathing) and meditation (quiet sitting meditation) practices, creating your individual Ashtanga practice, what is the aim of doing all the same asanas, how to create maximum length for the limbs in the asana's, and so much more.

Content of the workshops:

Saturday 3 December AMS & Thursday 8 December DH:
06.30 – 10.30 Led Primary Series (two shifts if needed, you’ll be able to choose your starting time closer to date)
The traditional exact vinyasa counting, Sanskrit asana names and numbers with a continuous rhythm guided by Petri.

11:00-13:00 Workshop Opening, Pranayama & Meditation
Discussion on Ashtanga Yoga in the old days, light pranayama (breathing) and meditation (quiet sitting meditation).

14:00-16.00 Workshop: Creating your individual Ashtanga practice
We all have different body types, shapes and ages. What is easy for one student can be impossible for another. That doesn’t mean that one practice is better than another. How much of flexibility do we have to finetune our individual Ashtanga practice within the “traditional” Ashtanga system? How much can we change the sequences? What is the aim of doing all the same asanas or getting stuck in one asana for a rest of our lives. This session contains both theory and practice.

06.30 – 10.00 Morning Mysore (two shifts, you’ll be able to choose your starting time closer to date)

10:45-12:45 Pranayama and healing mantras
There are many kind of mantras available. In this class we will be chanting mantras that have a healing focus and connection to the life creating elements.

14:00-16:30 Workshop: The Healing touch
How to create a safe and healing environment in the yoga shala.
Yoga is about healing, sensing and understanding, realising. How to create the healing space in the Yoga shala through hands on adjustments, acceptance and positive feedback? By respecting the Ashtanga Yoga tradition in vinyasa, alignments and teaching methods. This session contains both theory and practice.

Monday 5 December AMS & Saturday 10 December DH:
06.30 – 10.00 Morning Mysore (two shifts, you’ll be able to choose your starting time closer to date)

10:45-12:45 Asana/body puja trough Vital points.
We are using our own body and position as a tool of a concentration.

14:00-16.30 Workshop: Lengthening the body.
How to create maximum length for the limbs in the asanas. How stretching is strengthening and balancing our mind. Originally a bone setting technique (a healing method) called “limb lengthening”, which Petri modified for asana adjustments to create a maximum length for limbs. This will not only benefit your asana practice, but also release the tensions and pains from the body. In this workshop we are practicing how to find the space in gentle and safe, but effective ways. This session contains both theory and practice

Tuesday 6 December AMS & Sunday 11 December DH:
06.30 – 10.00 Morning Mysore (two shifts, you’ll be able to choose your starting time closer to date)

10:45-12:45 Pranayama and healing mantras
There are many kind of mantras available. In this class we will be chanting mantras that have a healing focus and connection to the life creating elements.

14:00-16.30 Workshop: Self healing and strength building through the asanas
Petri will introduce several self healing and strengthening techniques to prevent injuries and healing existing ones. The last half of our we’ll practice a guided self-healing meditation. Petri will guide a meditation based on energy healing and mind work.

This studio is located at Prinseneiland: just a two-minute walk from Haarlemmerplein. This space is a perfect place to reconnect with yourself and find peace within. The large windows give a beautiful view of the canals and small harbour. The room upstairs has a dome-shaped roof and downstairs you will find the reception area and two dressing rooms with showers.
