Alison Melvin

Yin

Alison fell in love with Amsterdam when she came to the city in 1995. Having given up her publishing work to raise three children, Alison has been fortunate to have studied yoga for over 25 years and has practised in different traditions from Iyengar and Ashtanga to Yin.

In 2007 Alison was invited to become a yoga teacher with the Yoga Academy in the UK. She has been teaching yoga since 2009 and continues to follow trainings with international teachers such as Sarah Powers and the Insight Yoga Institute. She is a believer in lifelong learning and attends trainings and retreats to inspire her own practice and teachings.

She has a passion for slow, mindful yoga in which she shares inspiration, readings and poems. She is inspired by Yin qualities such as gentleness and slowing down and teaches a gentle, heartfelt yoga practice that is suitable for everyone.

Alison firmly believes that the goal of yoga is more about paying attention and less about simply doing poses. Less about what the poses look like and more about what is happening on the inside and the way mindful movement and breath awareness train the heart and mind.

“The little space within the heart is as great as the vast universe. The heavens and the earth are there and the sun and the moon and the stars. Fire and lightening and winds are there. And all that now is and all that is not.” - Upanishads
