Amélie Duvernay

Astanga Led

Amélie is born in France and originally comes from Burgundy. In 2008 her interest in Yoga starts in Paris, where she practices Hatha and Bikram Yoga until she discovers Astanga Yoga. In 2009, she starts a 200-hour Teacher training at Astanga Yoga Paris with Linda Munro and Gerald Disse, and follows them to Auroville, India, for workshops with them and with Monica Marinoni.  In India, she fully immersed herself in the world of Yoga in order to gain a better understanding of its roots and culture. She started to teach with Linda and Gerald in 2010 for several years.

In her path to expression, she was first active in the artistic field: at a young age, she was originally trained as a dancer and made her first steps in the Jazz performance field in London, as well as in contemporary dance creations and cabaret.

Back in France after 4 years, she felt her health decreasing and was suffering from physical injuries and dealt with signs of depression. To her, Astanga was a miracle as it put everything back into place: emotions, thoughts and physical strength. She realised her regular practice was necessary in order to keep going and to be able to open up to possibilities in life. Several Astanga workshops took her to different countries, and she followed Mysore programs that deepened her practice; with Ron Reid and Marla Meenakshi Jois in Thailand, Kino Mac Gregor, Tim Miller in California and Monica Marinoni in India.

In her daily life, she nourishes her inspirations through Ayurveda, daily practice and through contemporary dance, as she occasionally goes back to the field. She discovered The Gaga Movement Language in 2017, created by the Israelian choreographer Ohad Naharin. She attended several international intensive workshops for professional dancers with his company Batsheva.
