‘I don’t know if I am dancing because I am happy or happy because I am dancing, anyway, I’ll keep on dancing.’
This quote inspires me because it shows one doesn’t have to understand it all with the rational mind, as long as you feel it’s good. This feeling - our inner wisdom - is a trustworthy guide.
I have been teaching Nia for five years. It all started when I took a Nia class myself back in 2007. It combined dance, which I was familiar with, with things that were new to me: martial arts and healing techniques. Through Nia I discovered I loved the more yang movements from taekwondo. Through Nia I discovered what awareness and connection with the breath means.
Besides taking the Nia White Belt training in 2012, I studied more dance and healing techniques (dance therapy, and, more recently Sahaj’ healing yoga). Teaching brings me the joy of sharing great experiences: I hope to bring a little more light and happiness into people’s lives through the classes.
Apart from Nia teacher, I am an Arabist, currently employed at the Dutch Council for Refugees.
