Janice Gates, founder of Somatic Yoga Therapy programs, has been a practicing yoga therapist for over 20 years. A pioneer in the field, she is past president and current advisor to the International Association of Yoga Therapists, has served on the faculty of the Yoga Research and Education Center, and written widely on yoga, yoga therapy and meditation. With deep roots in the tradition of yoga, her teaching is influenced by her studies in Somatic psychology and Buddhism. She is author of the pioneering book, Yogini, the Power of Women in Yoga and her work has been featured in Yoga Journal, Yoga International, the International Journal of Yoga Therapy and Oprah Magazine. Based in the US, she teaches at Spirit Rock Mediation Center and is a founding faculty of the Mindfulness Mediation and Yoga Training for yoga teachers there. She currently trains and mentors yoga professionals and healthcare practitioners in how to use the incredibly sophisticated tools of yoga for healing.
