Megan began an Ashtanga practice at the start of her career in higher education after completing her graduate work in creative writing in the U.S.What started as a search for an exercise to reduce stress and connect philosophy to practice, the yoga led her to her first teacher and, eventually, to her first trip to the Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India. Between here and there, she traded in the academic classroom and found space to combine her creative interests, need for introspection, and passion for teaching others. Time spent on the mat—the daily repetition with its inevitable ups and downs— anchors her spiritual practice through self-acceptance, dedication, discipline, and the tapas fire of a fully inhabited body.
Her teaching encourages a surrender to meet your self where you are for the day with the work of recognizing the old patterns of the mind and body. Within this balance of acceptance and exploration, the practice is revealed.
After many years of study and practice, she received level 2 authorization from her teacher, Sharath Jois, in 2012. She has assisted Sharath in the teaching room at KPJAYI and taught at Jois Shala in the U.S. before running her own Mysore program in Greenwich, Connecticut. She is grateful to her teachers Faith Scimecca, Dominic Corigliano, and the Jois family for their guidance and presence along the path.
