Merel Kuiper

Hatha

Merel became familiar with yoga early in life; she was born the daughter of a yoga teacher. When she joined lessons with her mother she was inspired by the sense of lightness it brought to her body and mind. Being a curious young adolescent, her mother’s study books helped Merel to better understand the yoga discourse and strengthen her practice.

In her twenties she started practicing more regularly and experimented with different styles of yoga. The benefits she experienced from her autodidact training inspired her to start a professional training program at the Yoga Academy of the Netherlands, from which she graduated in 2013.

For Merel, Yoga and meditation are a source of inspiration and knowledge. They provide guidance in dealing with questions of body, mind and the inner and outer world and the relationship between them.

Merel’s never-ending curiosity keeps her motivated to learn, observe, question and evolve as both a yoga teacher and a practitioner. Her own practice and learning curve helps her to understand the struggles and difficulties her students face in their practice. Merel’s classes are about bringing the mind, the breath and the body in harmony with gentle attention.

The Pranayama Journey

With Arno Nistal Ten Veen

03 June 2017

Typically, we only use 30 percent of our full breathing potential. Because our breath is connected to prana (or life-force), this results in a continuous lack of energy. Additionally, 70 percent of our detox processes happen through our breath.
