Get to know the people of Delight Yoga
Sjoerd Dragtsma & Sido Wijga
After flirting with yoga in his twenties, this time (2015) he was naturally and unavoidable drawn into the yogic fire.
The sacred Amazone ceremonies gave Sjoerd many glimpses about what it means to be a human being, to live with other beings and how we tend to keep ourselves small and ‘secure’. More insight and embodiment came when he underwent a 500-hour ‘Delight Yoga Teacher Training’ with Katiza Satya Ivulic and Kevin Sahaj in 2016-2018. Under their guidance, the real peeling of the layers of conditioning started. More trainings, self-discovery retreats, plant ceremony’s, Vipassana and Baghavad Gita study groups were a result of this deep urge of wanting to know the Truth of what we are. Sjoerd feels a deep gratitude for his teachers guiding him on this great discovery. He explains this inward-journey as a remembrance; something that was always there, but was forgotten for quite some time.
Sjoerd’s classes are modestly influenced by his parallel shamanic path and have an emphasis on the meditative and healing aspects of yoga. Stripping away any goals and expectations, and inviting you to just simply Be present. Giving space to whatever arises and start seeing things for what they really are. Sometimes he likes to use instruments during his classes as sound is a true ‘soul mover’ for him.
In 2008 out of curiosity Sido found his way to a yoga class above his working place, one of the first classes of Kristin Vikjord in Amsterdam (co-founder of Delight Yoga). This is where he discovered Astanga Vinyasa Yoga. He soon noticed the positive effect of yoga on his physical and mental condition. After exploring various yoga systems he sticked with Astanga Vinyasa as his core practice. Until in 2012 he discovered Yin Yoga and found his ideal balance in the combination of the two.
After a 10-day Vipassana retreat in India Sido decided to start a yoga teacher training with Delight in 2013 to deepen his knowledge of yoga. A great fire was ignited to explore into the Self and this was the beginning af many trainings and retreats in the field of meditation, self discovery, healing & energy work and many yoga teacher trainings (850+ hours, all at Delight Yoga).
In 2015 he found his Guru in the Advaita Zen master Mooji. It were his pointings that made him truly look within and explore into the truth of what we are. Through Mooji's teachings he also became interested in other Advaita Vedanta & Zen masters like Sri Ramana Maharshi, H.W.I. Poonja (Papaji), Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and Alan Watts who all point in the same direction.
Sido believes yoga is not a physical practice that requires great flexibility but an exploration into the nature of your own being and to completely become one with that. Sido is very grateful for all the teachers who have transferred their wisdom to him over the years. He is happy to share this wisdom and inviting you to explore into your own Self.
Sido is registered with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) and is registered as a restorative yoga teacher. He often shares some live music at the end of a class.
