How to work with April's New and Full Moon

By: Simona Schimanovich

With the Spring Equinox on the 21st of March, we have moved into Aries season and started a new astrological year.

As the first of the 12 signs of the zodiac, Aries carries the energy of new beginnings. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, it coincides with nature’s awakening for spring. The days are now getting longer and we have more energy to move forwards and initiate.

In Aries season this year, there are no major planets in Retrograde – encouraging us to move full steam ahead. It’s a time to push through what has been holding us back and take bold action towards our dreams.

April 12th - New Moon in Aries

The New Moon in Aries is one of the best times to set our intentions and start fresh. Aries is the very first sign of the zodiac, starting a fresh cycle of the year. As a fire sign, it represents the first impulse and creative spark that initiates a new beginning. In the Tarot, this energy is symbolised by the Ace of Wands.

What ideas and projects are you inspired to create this year? What is ready to burst open after the long winter of incubation?

Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, named after the warrior God in Roman mythology. This sign carries a bold, courageous and fearless energy that is ready to move forwards, initiate and take action.

This is the time to set your intentions, plant the seeds and start acting to realise your vision.

April 27th - Full Moon in Scorpio

A week after we enter Taurus season on April 20th, the full moon falls into the deep dark waters of Scorpio.

A full moon always amplifies our emotions and draws whatever we are feeling to the surface. Especially when it falls into a water sign – as water represents our feelings. Especially when it falls into Scorpio – which is the sign of intensity.

So we are likely to be feeling strong emotions around the time of this full moon, bringing us a sense of release and cleansing. Make sure to support yourself in this process and stay rooted in your practices with yoga, meditation and self-care while we are diving into the mystical waters of this Scorpio full moon.

Scorpio is a very powerful sign – its energy penetrates to go deep underneath the surface. It rules over money, power, sex and intimacy.

Ruled by the planet Pluto, Scorpio is the sign of spiritual transformation. It is linked to death and rebirth – helping us to rise like a Phoenix into our supreme power.

This full moon asks us to shed any old layers we have outgrown in this long winter of lockdown. It is time for us to step into this new beginning – reborn and connected to our inner power and depth.
