Bhagavad Gita: Bhakti Yoga (Part 1 of 2)

The path of Bhakti Yoga is described in the Gita as the quickest and most powerful of the paths of Yoga. The whole of the Bhagavad-gītā is a dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna. Arjuna asking for guidance from Krishna on life and the attainment of liberation from suffering (Moksha).
The term Bhakti Yoga means the path of devotion, opening your heart and being completely surrendered to the path of unconditional love. Krishna tells Arjuna that if he can offer everything to Him (the form of Universal Love) then he will achieve liberation from suffering.
It is given by Krishna as the supreme path of yoga because it is so direct and easy. This path can be seen as the path of trust and although trust is easy in theory, to really trust means that we are taking a big leap our of ourselves into the Universal Mystery.
A big part of the yoga of Bhakti has to do with devotion as well as trust. This word devotion is a little confusing sometimes to the modern mind. Sometimes we think that devotion is kind of weak mindedness and an inability to take control of our lives hoping the some force will help us if we just pray for help. But to be devoted means to become like a little child, there is a play of innocence and purity in offering all the ordinary activities to the amazing mystery of life. The open heart of trust and devotion is an open door to the magic world of spirit.
patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ
yo me bhaktyā prayacchati
tad ahaṁ bhakty-upahṛtam
"If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a ﬂower, a fruit or water, with pure conciousness, I will accept it. "
