Science of Chakras: Sahasrara

by Erica Jago

We started our journey through the chakras with Muladhara, the Root Chakra, and now we have arrived at the top of the chakra ladder to Sahasrara, the Crown Chakra.

Sahasrara means "thousand-petaled lotus flower"; the one flower in Hindu tradition that symbolizes growth through mud and muck to blossom at the crown of your head, like a halo.

Associated with bliss, the Crown Chakra allows you to experience what is beyond the mundane. It is the centre from which you sense subtleties and gestures from a higher source that guides your every step. Any time you feel that everything is interconnected and that you're a part of the larger web of life, Sahasrara is aligned and open.

Sahasrara is associated with the element of thought, connection to spirit, universal consciousness, enlightenment, wisdom, unity and self-knowledge. It channels your right to KNOW.

To refresh your memory:
- Right to be (root chakra)
- Right to feel (sacral chakra)
- Right to dare (solar plexus)
- Right to love (heart chakra)
- Right to speak (throat chakra)
- Right to see (third eye chakra)
- Right to know (crown chakra)

The element of the Crown Chakra is light; illuminating everything as it is without the filter of your expectations or judgements. When activating this centre, you give yourself permission to transform from dull to radiant, human to spirit, and material to magic.

Does that sound like something you would love to learn how to do?

Let’s start by focusing on how to illuminate your aura from dull to radiant.

By knowing your own inner beauty, you come to know the radiance of your aura. Your aura is your inner radiance emitting an electromagnetic field of energy that extends nine feet all around you. In its purest form, the atmosphere that surrounds your body reflects physical vitality, emotional ease, and mental clarity. It acts as a shield and holds your unique energetic signature — a vibrancy so powerful that it can uplift an entire room the moment you walk in.

Establishing a practice that sources energy from your Fourth Chakra to your Seventh Chakra maintains its purity and amplifies its luminosity. Your aura is always alive and connected to Universal source. Every time you raise your vibration from fear to love, you allow the sources of light from your heart and wisdom from your attention to illuminate your entire being. By clearing inner obstacles, you bring a healing energy to the spaces you occupy. Your aura will radiate freely and brightly and emit a loving presence to all beings everywhere

Open your journal and take your time with these questions. Transform from dull to radiant, and sync with unforeseen miracles:

- When I think of a magical experience, it is usually one where...?
- What are the synchronicities, magic, blessings, unexpected beauty that already exists in my life?
- Have I experienced a time when my presence ('good' or 'bad') affected the space I was occupying?

And close your eyes, repeat to yourself:

I am alive and connected to the universe. I am divinely guided”

To find this balance in Sahasrara, and all the previous energy centres, refer to my latest book, ANGELUS, an experiential chakra workbook and start practising from home today. This 7 chakra, 7 chapter book includes 21 yoga sequences, with 3 specifically for your Seventh Chakra. If you’re looking for a live practice with me, I’ll always be covering this work during my Chakra Study Sunday classes over on Zoom. Check out my Instagram to learn more and meet me on the mat!
