New to Delight Yoga?

Bookings are open 14 days in advance for all classes and can be made through our regular schedule.

When a class is fully booked, you can put yourself on the waiting list. Whenever a spot opens up, everybody on the waiting list will receive an e-mail. We have a first-come, first-serve policy.

Need to cancel?
Can’t make it to the studio? It is very important to us and our teachers that you always cancel your booking, and please try to do so at least 6 hours before the class starts. Just log in to My Delight and click cancel in your ‘booked classes’. We have noticed an increase in late cancellations and no-shows lately, so we want to explicitly ask you to keep this in mind out of respect for our teachers who lovingly prepare your classes and the fellow students who would love to take your spot.

We have a waiting list option so you don't miss out on your favourite class. When a class is fully booked, you can put yourself on the waiting list. Whenever a spot opens up, everybody on the waiting list will receive an e-mail. We have a first-come, first-serve policy.

Yoga clothing
Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving around in.

A (thermos) drinking bottle
We also ask students to bring their own (thermos) drinking bottle, as we can't provide glasses at the moment. We provide tea and water for you to fill up your drinking bottle in all our studios.

We provide mats & props
You will be able to use our mats, bolsters, meditation pillows, blocks, belts, eye pillows, and one blanket per person without the use of covers. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own props if that is more comfortable for you.

We encourage hands-on adjustments based on mutual consent between teacher and student. If you do not feel comfortable with adjustments, please communicate this to your teacher.

Yes, all of our studios in Amsterdam and Den Haag are back open for both classes and workshops! We will also continue to offer online classes. You can book your class 14 days in advance through our schedule.

For the most updated information, see our Corona Measures blog here.

We will check QR codes at our front desks as you come in. This will not be implemented for workshops because they qualify as educational programs.

A message from our Managing Director, Judith Manshanden, about this issue:

Dear all,

I hope that you are healthy and well. In this message, I would like to share what is happening behind the scenes at Delight Yoga during these unusual times.

Even though the previous Corona measures have been tough, the introduction of the Corona Toegangsbewijs has affected us on a deep and personal level. As you have noticed over the past 1.5 years, we have been very strict about following the government’s rules to create a safe environment in our studios.

As much as we believe in following these measures, we also believe in values like inclusiveness, autonomy, and body integrity. Values that are at the very core of yoga. Up until now, we’ve been able to unite our values with the Corona measures. With the introduction of mandatory Corona Toegangsbewijs in our studios, these values have become mutually exclusive with the rules.

Within the microcosm of our organisation, there are as many opinions as anywhere else, and we’ve been reluctant to take a side. Yoga is about being present with what is, not about declaring opinions. Our use of self-scan stations was a symbol of our wish to ‘stay in the middle’, but it has been made clear to us by law enforcement that our self scanners are legally insufficient. Because we are not above the law, we will start scanning QR codes at our front desks as of today.

This is a very difficult situation for us - we want to share a message of love, wisdom, and enlightenment and in order to share this message, we need the container that is Delight as an organization. If we do not follow the government’s measures, our means of sharing that message is no longer available. We can only honour the mission that our students, teachers, and team hold so dearly if we are here.

Steps Forward

Of course, we are looking into what we can do to keep supporting the students that can’t physically be in our studios. But I feel that this is not enough in this situation. We, as an organisation, need to ask ourselves the necessary moral and ethical questions. We need to be clear about our responsibilities towards ourselves, our community, and our society. We will explore these questions under the professional guidance of a professor of moral ethics from the Vrije Universiteit. I will share the outcome of this exploration during a special Zoom gathering on Saturday, November 20th at 11:00. This gathering is open to everyone and is a space to share and ask questions.

You can access the meeting through this link:
Meeting ID: 976 0858 9390
Passcode: 382423

We understand that there are many different opinions about this situation, and we want to hold space for all of these different voices. We hope you will join us in being a part of co-creating solutions so that change can be made where it’s needed the most. For the time being, you may miss some of our teachers on our schedule because they feel they can’t teach yoga if they are forced to exclude students from their classes. If you have any questions about your membership, please reach out to our Community Care team.

Like many of you, the difficult times we are facing weigh heavily on me. But I trust that we can do this together. Connection is the only answer to polarisation. So let’s keep holding each other, now more than ever.

New to yoga?

To avoid poor digestion, it’s highly recommended not to eat 2 hours prior to yoga practice. If you are very hungry, have something light, such as a fruit. As a rule: never practice yoga if you are too hungry, or too full. It’s also highly recommended to not drink within 30 minutes before, or during yoga practice. Furthermore it’s recommended to wait 30-45 before eating and drinking after yoga, to allow your mind and body to assimilate relaxation or shavasana.

If you can, have a refreshing shower before yoga, or wash your hands, feet and face. It’s not advisable to smoke before yoga. After practice, leave the sweat on your body so that the skin can re-absorb the eliminated hormones and minerals.

Respect the cycle of the body, and take it easy during your period. During the first days of menstruation avoid intense practice and especially inverse postures such as head- and shoulder stand. Also avoid intense belly movements such as in navasana (the boat) as well as strong backward bends and twists. Let the teacher know, and you will be given adapted postures.

Please let the teacher know if you have any injuries, pains or if you have had surgery that may be relevant to yoga practice. This could be anything: knee pain, back problems, high blood pressure or other complaints.

We recommend our students not do yoga in the first trimester, and just to attend the Prenatal classes after the 3rd month. We give pregnancy yoga weekly, you can find them on our regular schedule.

Before entering the class, please always tell the instructor that you are pregnant or have just given birth, so that he/she can show you custom poses where needed.

Remember that it is your yoga practice and your body. Be patient and be mindful. Differentiate between ambition and enthusiasm. Meet your ambitions with calmness, curiosity and observation. Don’t push yourself too hard when pressing your body into postures. Listen to your body and get to know your own limits – respect yourself. Keep focusing on the essence of yoga practice: breathing and awareness.

If you feel nauseous, have a headache or other complaints after yoga, it can be due to a variety of factors. Yoga postures or asanas stimulate many systems of the body, and elicit many processes, as for example, the elimination of toxins. When these toxins circulate through the body, you may experience physical effects. Other causes for feeling uncomfortable may be mental. Speak with the teacher for advice and guidance. It’s not abnormal to be emotional during or after yoga (sorrow, joy, anger, bliss, etc.). Observe arising and passing emotions and… breathe!
