Studio News: Corona updates

by Delight Yoga

Update: 30-11-2020

Face Masks are mandatory in our studios as of Tuesday, December 1st.

We would like to give you a gentle reminder that as of tomorrow, Tuesday, December 1st, it is mandatory to wear a mask in all public areas in The Netherlands for the next three months. This rule also applies to our studios.

We value creating the safest environment possible for all our students and therefore we kindly request you wear a face mask in all public areas of the studio at all times. This mask can be taken off as soon as you arrive on your mat.

If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, we will of course make an exception with the presentation of a doctor's certificate. Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions for students who don’t want to wear a mask because of their personal principles or beliefs. These students we respectfully invite back to our studios as soon as the mask requirement is no longer mandatory.

We look forward to the days when we can see each other's smiles in the studios again, but for now, we are grateful for your cooperation and understanding.

With love,

The Delight Yoga Team

Update: 4-11-2020 18:00

All Led classes and offline workshops are cancelled from Thursday 5 November

We have just received word from the government that yoga classes are categorized as group lessons and are therefore not allowed during this lockdown. Unfortunately, this means that all our led classes and offline workshops - this doesn’t include Mysore self-practice - will be cancelled starting tomorrow morning for the next two weeks. The good news is that we don’t have to close our studios completely, and we will be working hard to come up with alternatives that are within the guidelines to offer you the opportunity to keep your (self) practice going.

Even though this outcome is not what we hoped for, we feel that this is a moment to stay strong together and keep our heart open to all that comes. And while we are going to miss connecting with you in person, we do have alternatives to continue our journey together.

With our improved Delight Online platform, we now offer more than 30 new classes a week, as well as an on-demand library and wide array of online workshops to keep you balanced, nourished, and inspired.

Your generous and heartwarming support, either by keeping your membership active or by donating through our website, helped us through the previous lockdown. We truly hope we can count on your support again. If you feel you might want to make adjustments to your membership, you can do this through your ‘My Delight’ account.

Let’s make the best out of these unusual times, together. We are here for you.

With love,

The Delight Team

Why is the Mysore Program still on our schedule?
The Mysore program is based on self-practice under the guidance of a teacher who holds space for everybody individually and for the space as a whole. Since every student practices at their own pace and finishes at different times, Mysore is not considered a group class. The government sees taking a Mysore class the same way as visiting a gym, where everybody does their own workout on different machines. This is still allowed under the new measures.

As it is allowed by the government, we will continue to hold loving spaces for our students - you are free to continue your Mysore practice with us. In case you do not feel comfortable practising in the shala, we have our new online platform and are working hard on creating online alternatives to help you sustain your practice in the next couple of weeks.

I have reserved an offline workshop within the upcoming two weeks - what should I do?
You will receive an email on what we will do for the specific workshop you’ve made a reservation for within 24 hours. This email will contain all the information you need.

Update: 4-11-2020 16.00

We are in contact with the government for clarity

We would like to inform you that our studios will stay open for now.

We are happy and grateful that our government acknowledges the importance of sports for both physical and mental well-being. Yoga is specifically mentioned as one of the sports that can be practised within the government's guidelines.

However, the new measures also caused some confusion in regards to the permitted group size of the yoga classes. On the one hand, yoga could be categorized as an individual sport that we can practice within the guidelines as set by the government. On the other hand, our yoga practice could be interpreted as a group lesson, which is not allowed at the moment.

We are now in contact with the government to gain more clarity regarding which guidelines to follow. Until then, our studios will remain open and you can book your classes as usual.

You can find the most up to date information on our website. We will also keep you informed through email as soon as we have more information.

To make the environment in the studio even safer for our students and hosts, we must once again ask you for your cooperation.
- Please wear a face mask in all public areas of the studio at all times. This mask may be taken off as soon as you sit on your mat
- Keep a safe distance of 1.5m from your fellow yogis when entering and leaving the shala
- Bring your own yoga mat and a pillowcase or towel to cover your props.
- Change at home
- Leave the studio as soon as possible after your yoga class

With these precautions, we will keep our studios safe and healthy for everyone.

For those who wish to practice in the comfort of your own home, we have improved our Delight Online platform. Delight Online is already included within your Delight Membership.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We are here for you.

With love,

The Delight Team

Update: 14-10-2020

Our doors can stay open, but dressing rooms are closed

We would like to share our response to last night's press conference where the Dutch government announced new measures against the Coronavirus in the form of a 'semi-lockdown'.

The short, and very positive, conclusion is that we can keep welcoming you to our studios just as we have over the past months, with only a few minor changes to our Corona safety measures and guidelines

We are very grateful that the government has acknowledged the importance of allowing people to practice yoga in order to keep a steady mind (and body) in uncertain times. The Delight Community has shown that our studios can remain a safe place to practice in if we look after one other, so together we earned the right to keep our studios open. Thank you so much for playing a role in this achievement.

Dressing rooms are closed
There is only one concrete measure we need to make more strict: the government requested we close the dressing rooms to minimise the number of contact moments in the studio. So as of Wednesday, October 14th, it will not be possible to change in the dressing rooms anymore. You can still use the dressing room to hang your coat or take off your shoes, but please make sure you arrive at the studio fully dressed in your yoga attire to minimise the time spent in the dressing rooms.

We would like to remind you of the full list of measures that Delight Yoga is taking and the guidelines that we ask of our students to follow. You can also find them above the schedule.

Stay home when you have symptoms
Cold symptoms, coughing, shortness of breath, elevated temperature or fever, or the sudden loss of taste and smell. If you live with someone who shows these symptoms, or who have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 within the past 21 days, please stay home as well

Bring your own mat, towel or pillowcase
In case there is no other way for you, you can also bring a yoga towel to use on top of one of our yoga mats. Ask the host for a clean mat that you can use, and please make sure to clean it and give it back to the host after use. There are no mats available for outdoor classes. Eye pillows and straps will not be used in any classes.

Bring your own (thermos) drinking bottle
We also ask students to bring their own (thermos) drinking bottle, as we can't provide glasses at the moment. We provide tea and water for you to fill up your drinking bottle in all our studios.

Dress and shower at home
To reduce the amount of traffic in the studios we ask you to change clothes and shower at home. The showers are closed for the time being. No worries, you can still use the restroom but we ask you to clean it carefully after use.

Arrive / leave within 10 minutes
Arrive 10 minutes before the class starts at the earliest, and please leave within 10 minutes after your class ends so we can avoid having too many people in the studio. You can take tea to go, so bring your thermos.

Wear a mask in the reception area and dressing rooms
While at Delight Yoga, we strongly advise you to wear a mask in the reception area and dressing rooms before and after your yoga class. While in the yoga class, you are free to take off your mask.

Keep 1,5-meter distance
While at Delight Yoga, keep a safe and respectful distance from other students, teachers, and hosts. This starts when you walk in the door to check-in. When you enter the studio, follow the marks on the floor, and use the designated spots in the shala to place your mat. Try to stay on your mat during the class and respect each other space when entering and leaving the shala.

Use the hand sanitiser / wash your hands
There is hand sanitiser available in all studios. Please make sure to use the hand sanitiser when you walk in and please wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after you’ve used the bathroom.

Check-in with the host / teacher before class
We will not be using coins to check-in. When you arrive at the studio, please check in with the host (or teacher) and share any injuriesor important information before class.

No hands-on adjustments
During your practice, teachers will walk around through the shala to give you verbal adjustments. The teachers will also give you the chance to indicate if you do not prefer them to come close to you. There will be NO (hands-on) physical adjustments at Led classes. Teachers of Mysore classes are adjusting hands-on by using clean towels brought by students themselves.

Chant internally
We have decided to choose the safe route: teachers can chant softly, and students can join internally through humming or joining mentally. This also includes chanting of the 'ohm'.

Respect quarantine periods
Like with everything so far, we are respecting the guidelines of the RIVM. This also means that our teachers, hosts and staff can not come to the studios if they have travelled to countries marked as 'orange' or 'red' by the RIVM. We would like to request you to respect these guidelines too.

The rest of our guidelines and measures will remain unchanged. We are confident that if we keep respecting these guidelines together, our studios will remain a safe place for our students, teachers, and hosts. And with these collective efforts, we can help everyone maintain inner peace during these unusual times.

As always, feel free to reply to contact us in case you have any questions. We are standing by to answer them.

Love,

The Delight Yoga Team

Update: 29-09-2020

Wear a mask in the reception area

As we heard in the press conference yesterday, the numbers of Covid-19 cases in Amsterdam and The Hague are rising. Due to the new measures put in place by the government on the 28th of September, we strongly advise our community (students, teachers and hosts) in both Amsterdam and The Hague to wear a mask in the reception area. While in your yoga class, students/teachers are free to take off their masks.

The new measures do not affect our measures any further, as we already keep the maximum capacity in our spaces beneath 30 people. Luckily, all our workshops and classes can therefore continue as planned.

We ask all our teachers, students and staff to work together to ensure everyone’s health and safety by keeping a safe distance and respecting each others space. We sincerely believe that we will get through these challenges together with love, kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others.

Thank you all for staying, coming back or joining our studios (and online studios) to practice at Delight Yoga. We are incredibly grateful for our community. We are in this together. Be kind, spread the love and stay connected.

If you have any questions or concerns about the measures, do not hesitate to reach out.

Love & Light,

Delight Yoga

Update: 14-8-2020

Reminder: keep a safe distance

Upon requests of our students and teachers we've been looking into the maximum number of mats in our studios and we've found a way to increase our capacity with a different setup.

Of course, we will still maintain the 1,5-meter distance rule to create a safe and secure space for our students, teachers and hosts. This is our number one priority.

In order to do so, we also want to remind everyone to please keep a safe and respectful distance from each other at all times, also in the lounge and dressing rooms.

Thanks again for respecting our guidelines to keep each other safe.

Love, Delight Yoga

Update: 1-8-2020

New Safety & Social Distancing Measures update

It has been a month since we opened our doors again and it has been great to see so many of you returning to your mat. We want to thank you for your cooperation to keep things safe by looking after each other.

Last week, we sent out a survey to our students to ask about their experience in the studios so far. Based on the outcomes of this survey, and after conversing with teachers, hosts and studio managers, we came up with the following changes:

Teachers walking around:
Teachers might walk around again through the Shala to give you VERBAL adjustments. All teachers can decide for themselves if they do this, but they will announce at the start of the class whatever they decide. The teachers will also give you the chance to indicate if you do not prefer them to come close to you.

Hands-on adjustments:
We have decided that teachers will not offer hands-on adjustments just yet. The outcomes of the survey showed that our students are not comfortable with this yet. (Note: teachers of Mysore classes are adjusting hands-on already by using clean towels brought by students themselves, but we will not be doing this for regular Led classes yet).

Chanting:
This is a topic that we got mixed responses to in the survey, but have decided to choose the safe route for now: teachers can chant softly, and students can join internally through humming or joining mentally. This includes chanting of the 'ohm's'.

Dressing rooms:
In some studios (Prinseneiland, Nieuwe Achtergracht & Scheveningseweg) we are going back to separate dressing rooms for men and women (instead of gender-neutral). We still prefer you to come in your yoga clothes, but in case there's no other option for you, please quickly change in the dressing room. If possible, please change at home to spend the least amount of time in the dressing rooms. The showers still remain closed.

*So please note, De Clercqstraat & Weteringschans will remain gender neutral due to the set up of the spaces. In case there was no other option for you than to change in our studio, you're free to use the toilet if you don't feel comfortable in a gender neutral dressing room.

Please respect quarantine periods after travelling:
Like with everything so far, we are respecting the guidelines of the RIVM. This also means that our teachers, hosts and staff can not come to the studios if they have travelled to countries marked as 'orange' or 'red' by the RIVM. We would like to request you to respect these guidelines too.

Waiting list:
We now have a waiting list option so you don't miss out on your favourite class. When a class is fully booked, you can put yourself on the waiting list. Whenever a spot opens up, everybody on the waiting list will receive an e-mail. First come, first serve.

Bring your yoga mat or yoga towel:
We still keep the policy to bring your own yoga mat. In case there is no other way for you, you can also bring a yoga towel to use on top of one of our yoga mats. Ask the host for a clean mat that you can use, and please make sure to clean it and give it back to the host after use.

Please be mindful of your registrations:
Please be mindful of your registrations. We no longer offer walk-in spots, so please make sure you can attend your booked classes or cancel in time (up to 2 hours beforehand) so that somebody else can get your spot. With our limited capacity, we want to make sure as many people get the chance to practice with us again.

If you have any ideas/suggestions/concerns/comments, don't hesitate to contact us and we will discuss it with the team.

See you in the studio again soon!

Love, The Delight Yoga Team

Update: 1-7-2020

Delight Yoga's Safety & Social Distancing Measures

Delight Yoga will take the following measures in accordance with the RIVM to ensure our members feel safe, healthy, and at peace in our studios.

To keep our spaces and community safe, we kindly ask you all to follow these guidelines:

Stay home if you have any of the following symptoms:
Cold symptoms, coughing, shortness of breath, elevated temperature or fever, or the sudden loss of taste and smell. If you live with someone who shows these symptoms, or who have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid19 within the past 21 days, please stay home as well.

Book your class beforehand
Reserve your classes beforehand via www.delightyoga.com as there will be no walk-in spots available. You will be able to cancel your booking up to two hours before the class begins.

Change and shower at home
The changing rooms have a limit on their capacity and are gender-neutral. Please note that they are only available to store belongings, as we ask you to change and shower at home.

Bring your own mat or yoga towel and props
Bring your own mat and props - a yoga towel to use on top of one of our mats is also fine. In case you would like to use our props, bring a pillowcase or towel to protect the surface (this does not apply to eye pillows and straps). Yoga mats are also available for purchase in the Delight Shop.

Timing
Arrive 10 minutes before the class starts at the earliest, and please leave right after your class ends so we can avoid having too many people in the studio (you can take tea to go).

Use the hand sanitiser available & wash your hands
Make sure to use the hand sanitiser when you walk in and please wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after you’ve used the bathroom.

Keep 1.5-meter distance
While at Delight, keep a safe and respectful distance from other students, teachers, and hosts. This starts when you walk in the door to check-in. When you enter the studio, follow the marks on the floor, and use the designated spots in the shala to place your mat.

We will be practising the following measures to make sure your practice is as safe and peaceful as possible:

Changes to checking-in
When you arrive at the studio, you will still check-in at the desk with the host (or teacher) like you’re used to. We will not be using coins. Please make sure to share any injuries or important information with the teacher before class.

Our teachers will guide you with care and awareness
During your practice, your teacher will stay on their mat instead of walking around the room, in order to maintain the 1.5-meter distance. There will also be no physical adjustments.

Cleaning in between classes
We will make sure to clean the shalas thoroughly in between classes in order to create clean spaces where you can truly relax.

Hand sanitizer will be available
We will provide hand sanitizer around our studios for you to use.

We’re in this together. Be kind, spread love & stay connected
We’re happy to see you all again in the studios, however, we will miss the hugs and connecting over a cup of tea. Let’s focus on the little things we can do that keep us connected.

Enjoy your practice :-)

Update 28-5-2020

Re-opening 1 July

We have some very good news to share with you: Yesterday the Dutch government announced that they intend to allow us to open the doors to our studios again per 1 July! We could not be happier as we can not wait to see you again, in person. We feel it has been way too long since we were able to welcome you to our studios.

It looks like the uncertain times are coming to an end. This means that our team will do their utmost to create a safe environment for you to enjoy your practice, and while respecting the guidelines that will be in effect. Naturally, we can not go back to the situation how things were pre-Corona, but we are convinced that we can give you the Delight-experience anyway.

While we prepare the opening of our studios, we really hope that you will keep enjoying our online and outdoor offering in the next couple of weeks. We also decided that the online and outdoor classes are here to stay, even when we can practice indoors again, since we received so many positive reactions about the classes.

Expect more practical updates about how we will organise things our studios soon.

We want to thank you again for your support in the last few months, it has been heartwarming to experience the power of the strong Delight Community in these tough times.

See you soon. :)

Love,

The Delight Team

Update 7-5-2020

Outdoor Classes per 11 May

Here is another update from Delight Yoga after last night’s press conference about the roadmap for the next couple of months.

We believe that we can speak for the complete Delight Yoga Community if we say that we are disappointed about the announcement that we can not open our doors again before September 1st. However, the government also indicated that there might be opportunities for some studios/schools/clubs to open earlier if the right protocol is in place.

In the last few weeks we have been working on such a protocol, and we feel ready to welcome you back in our studios again in a safe way. Together with other yoga schools, we will do all we can to bring awareness to the government about us being ready for welcoming students again to make sure we can open as soon as possible.

Fortunately, there were also some announcements that will bring some positivity during these uncertain times. In the next couple of weeks, we are allowed to organise more and more ‘offline’ events to come together as a community, here is what we have in mind:

  • Per 11 May: we are allowed to schedule classes outside, so think ‘yoga in the park’, ‘beach yoga’, ‘silent walks’, ‘nature meditations’, ‘breathing in nature’, ’outdoor Satsang’, et cetera. Our team will start working on creating a schedule of daily outdoor activities that will give us the possibility to come together and practice again without an internet connection. We will also look at opening up the possibility to restart massages, consults, healings, guidances, and other appointments per 11 May.

  • Per 1 June: we are allowed to organise indoor events again too with a maximum of 30 people. This might not be normal yoga classes, but we should be able to organise inspiring events with our teachers that support your practice like meditations, workshops, lectures, talks, et cetera.

  • Per 1 July: we can even organise similar events, but with a maximum of 100 students.

  • And next to these new initiatives, we will keep creating an amazing online offering of classes, workshops, courses and trainings (with Delight Membership Discounts).

We are excited to create an awesome and inspiring schedule of offline classes for you. So Keep an eye out for our communication about our new offline programming that will come your way soon.

Love,

Delight Yoga Team

Update 24-4-2020

Daily Online Yoga Classes & Free The House of Yoga

The Dutch government has announced that all sports clubs in The Netherlands will be closed until April 6th 2020. Due to this situation, Delight Yoga will be closed until that date. We are currently offering online yoga classes and livestreams to continue your yoga practice, as we believe that yoga and meditation are especially necessary in these times of fear and anxiety.

Daily Online Yoga classes

We've created a schedule of live-streamed online yoga classes, so you can continue your yoga practice with your favourite Delight Yoga teachers at home. We are happy to offer daily live online yoga classes in all styles:  Get moving with Vinyasa and Astanga, balance yourself with Hatha and Yin Yang, or slow down with Yin and Restorative Yoga. We also offer a Special Classes, Satsang, Ayurveda talks and daily Silent Sit Meditation. You can find the online yoga classes in our regular class schedule.

You can join for free until the end of March, but a donation to support our teachers in these challenging times is greatly appreciated.

Free access to House of Yoga for 30 days

In addition to our live online schedule, you are still very welcome to use our online video platform, ‘The House of Yoga’. We are offering free access for 30 days through the house of yoga website with voucher code: c135aba4972e65e4. Available until 6th of April 2020.

Thank you again for all your support and the kind words you have been sending us. We are incredibly grateful for our community and wish you health and ease in these challenging times.

Update: 15-3-2020

Delight Yoga closed until April 6th

The Dutch government just announced that all sports clubs in The Netherlands will be closed until April 6th 2020. This means that Delight Yoga will be closing her doors until that date. We would like to explain how Delight Yoga will handle this situation and what this means for our community.

Schedule with online classes/live-streaming

As a result of our studios being closed, all of our classes/workshops/etc. are now cancelled. We are currently working on creating a new class schedule, taught online via live-stream, that will replace our regular class schedule. Through these virtual classes, you will still be able to connect with your favourite teacher and continue practising in the comfort of your own home. We will work on creating a schedule with our new live online classes - expect more information about how this works tomorrow (Monday, March 16th). In addition to our live online schedule, you are still very welcome to use our online video platform, ‘The House of Yoga’. We are offering free access for 30 days through this website with voucher code: c135aba4972e65e4

What will happen with my Delight Card/Credits?

Your Delight Card will be automatically frozen until April 6th, 2020. This means that your current product will remain unchanged until 6 April, so you can continue your practice once our studios open their doors again as if nothing happened. We will not be offering refunds for products, but will instead allow you to use those credits at Delight Yoga once we are open again.

What will happen to my Delight Membership?

We have one big favour to ask our community of Delight Members: as Delight Yoga, including our teachers and staff, will now face financially challenging times, we would be incredibly grateful if you decide to keep your membership running for the next few months. We understand that this may not be financially possible for everyone, but continuing to support Delight in this way will make a significant difference and allow us to cover all the costs that continue to come our way. Thank you so much for your understanding and support in these challenging times. You can, of course, also freeze your membership for a month (between 1 April and 30 April) or terminate it as of 1 April.

What will happen to my upcoming workshop booking?

Workshops that are scheduled between today and April 6th will be postponed, and we will contact you with new dates as soon as possible. If you are not able to join the workshop on that new date, we will discuss options with you in order to give you a refund on your account, so you can spend it on another workshop at Delight Yoga.

Can I book private classes with my teacher at home?

Yes, this should be possible, but we will need some time to arrange appointments with our teachers. If you would like to schedule a private class. We ask for your understanding - we are processing a lot of requests at the moment, so you can expect a delay before we can get back to you.

How do I stay up to date?

Please keep an eye on our blog and social media for updates about what is going on in our studios or sign up for our newsletter here. We are getting a lot of questions at the moment, so please allow for some time before we can get back to you. Our hosts are working as fast as they can to respond to all the questions that are coming in. Please enjoy this free meditation while you wait for our reply.

As always, thanks for your support and the kind words you have been sending us. We are incredibly grateful to our community and wish you health and ease in these challenging times.

Hope to welcome you back in the studios soon.

Love,

Delight Yoga Team

Update: 13-3-2020

Corona Practicalities

Delight Yoga has chosen to take the following precautionary measures to ensure the health and ease of our students and staff. We aim to avoid the spread of Coronavirus while still providing a beautiful yet safe practice space for our students.

We would like to emphasise the following: please, do not come to class if you have even minor symptoms. Remain at home if you are sick, but keep doing a home yoga practice to manage your stress. We believe that yoga and meditation are especially necessary in these times of fear and anxiety. We have decided to offer free access to The House of YogaUse voucher code: c135aba4972e65e4

We hope that the beautiful yoga and meditation practices and talks offered there, help bring peace of mind to all affected.

Due to the current situation, we will also be taking the following measures:
 • We ask all members of the Delight community to avoid greeting one other with hugs and kisses. Until the situation has calmed down, we encourage greeting one another with the traditional Indian “Namaste” instead.
 • We will reduce the maximum capacity of our classes to make sure each student has more space and create peace of mind.
 • Our teachers will no longer use hands-on adjustments, no longer use coins to check in our students, minimise the use of props and eye pillows will not be used in any classes.
 • Mysore Program classes will be held without any hands-on adjustments nor assistants in the room, the teacher will primarily be there to hold the student’s space for their practice and be available for questions.
 • In addition to having students spray their mats after each class, our mats are also thoroughly cleaned by our hosts. When you clean your mat after your yoga class, please help us to maintain hygienic conditions by cleaning your mat with extra care.
 • We will provide paper towels instead of regular towels in our changing rooms and restrooms.

We will be adhering to the guidelines issued by the Dutch Government and will be keeping constantly up to date in case of further changes. Please refer to this blog for the most up to date information.

Warm regards,

Delight Yoga Team
