Theme of the Month June: Storyteller

She who speaks the Truth by Lidewij Severins

The Moon of June represents the woman who speaks the Truth. She who shares from her heart; truthfully, concise and clear. Through stories, we learn to have faith, to be humble and to keep our innocence.

Through oral traditions, that are so valued in Native American cultures, stories about hard-learned lessons, norms, values and eternal truths are kept alive. We can learn so much from hearing other people’s stories and seeing how they face the same challenges, have the same fears and insecurities. This can help us to take a little distance from our own personal story, recognising that that's what it is: just a story.

Sharing stories help us to gain perspective on our own struggles on our path on Earth. Through stories, we can see our own situation through the eyes of the observer. Just like we do when we practice meditation, we become the witness. We observe whatever is going on inside us from a distance. Through the eye of pure awareness and guided by our inner wisdom we are able to differentiate between what is real and what is not.

The Storytelling Clan Mother inspires to grow and learn in a way that is accessible and fun for all. She uses humour and triggers our curiosity to get and keep our attention. In this way, life lessons and eternal truths are passed on from generation to generation.

Stories are shared from the heart and are heard and understood from the heart. With a rational mind, we might not be able to understand or explain all wisdom stories, but the heart knows.

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

This Storytelling Clan Mother of the 6th Moon reminds me of my own grandmother. How my sister, brother and I used to climb onto her lap and ask her to tell us a story. Our favourite stories were repeated over and over again. Without ever getting bored we were listening with close attention, hanging upon her lips.

Now she's growing older and so are we. Soon I'll become a mother and I'll pass her stories on to my little one. And hopefully one day, our children will share the same wisdom stories with their (grand) children.

Let's honour our ancestors and their stories. May their wisdom inspire us to connect to our own inner wisdom. May we learn from them, may we be guided by them, may we never forget.
