QiGong is an ancient Asian system of health and self-development. Slow circular, repetitive movements invoke a sense of inner peace and relaxation. Learn to cultivate and manage a high grade of Energy. Special emphasis will be placed on intention, alignment and Taoist “natural breath”. This practice builds strength, grace and calm. The QiGong practice puts emphasis on smooth transitions while being simultaneously deeply grounded. Today’s heavily emphasized Vinyasa flow classes can sometimes be a great workout, but missing the deeper rooted energy that comes from the ancient Yoga practice. The QiGong element will help you tap into that profound energy in a very real way, so that your Prana or life force is not just some mystical idea, but a real sensation that can be felt here and now.

The ancient Chinese scholars believe that the universe consists of five basic elements, which are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. The Five Element Qigong works with these basic elements. Specific movements relate to a particular element, which in turn relates to various organs in the body.

Each element also refers to a particular season. For example, Metal, the element of the fall season, is related to the lungs and large intestine. In the Five Element Qigong, the Metal element movement of “Great Hawk Spreads Its Wings” is practiced to heal and strengthen the organs related to the element.

The Five Element Qigong practice is done in alternating intervals of standing poses and walking meditation. Each sacred gesture is followed by a few minutes of walking, the purpose of which is to learn to transition smoothly from the sacred to secular everyday activities so that over time, there’s no difference between a meditative practice and the daily life.

Francesca is a second-generation Yoga teacher. She brings her lifetime of spiritual practice and study into her classes. Her passion is integrating spirituality and mindfulness with everyday, human life: body, mind, emotions, environment. To this end, she has studied many lineages of meditation and Yoga, Qigong, psychology, neuroscience, Traditional Chinese Medicine, aromatherapy, and the Alexander Technique. Her classes incorporate practices from these studies. Ease and present-moment attention are the foundation of each class.Francesca is also an Alexander Technique teacher.
