A five-day journey into experiencing the beautiful wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga.

 
In this Ayurvedic Summer School retreat, we will go into yogic philosophies and Ayurvedic explanation of life, body, mind, and spirit to see how we can live in a way that gives us more depth and flavor in our daily life.
 
Our mornings will start with a simple guided 30 minutes meditation in the early morning to experience how fresh and fit we can feel throughout the day by starting our day early with a meditation. After a tea and fruit break, we will then go into two-hour yoga practice followed by pranayamas (breathing exercises). Delicious and lovingly prepared Ayurvedic meals await us after our practice to nourish our body and spirit. 
 
After lunch, we will go into Ayurvedic and Yogic philosophy talk which will cover everything from how to have better bowel movements and sleep to expanding our consciousness and waking up from non-supportive mental habits. These talks are given in a very light-hearted manner with humor yet sticking to the authentic teachings to allow us to take an honest and deeper look into who we have chosen to be so far in this lifetime.
 
These teachings are profound through their simple approach and explanations of life and therefore they reach the deep and subtle places within our mind. A lot of things can rise up to be seen and healed, therefore there will time and space to go for quiet walks in nature between meals and breaks to digest the food we have eaten and anything else that needs to be digested. We will also have a half-day of silence to support this process.
 
Life is meant to be lived happily, fully, feeling connected to the Universal Consciousness out of which every one of us comes from and yogic philosophy and Ayurvedic teachings give us the tools to experience our life in this way: we experience every moment as full, special and alive. Through this, we dissolve the illusion of finding happiness from something, somewhere or through somebody outside of ourselves, but right here inside, we find the bliss and joy that has never left you. When we start seeing things from a new perspective that Ayurveda and yoga offer us, we fall in love with life and become grateful for all that we have and are."
 
 

Schedule:

 
Monday afternoon arrival, snack, welcome talk, dinner, Restorative Yoga.
 
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday:
  • 7:00 a.m. guided meditation
  • 8:00 tea and fruit/light breakfast
  • 9:00-11:00 yoga & pranayama
  • 12:00 lunch
  • 13:00 free time for walks outside, reading, journaling, quiet time.
  • 15:00-16:30 Ayurvedic & yogic philosophy lecture
  • 16:45 tea and a light snack 
  • 17:30-19:00 Restorative yoga
  • 19:00 Time to enjoy dinner, a summer evening walk, quiet time
 
Thursday afternoon after Yoga practice we will observe noble silence to go into our inner journey deeper.
 
Friday:
  • 8:00 tea and fruit, light breakfast
  • 9:00-11:00 Yoga & Pranayama & closing circle

Location

Aan De Hei, De Hoorneboeg, Hilversum
This new retreat location "Aan De Hei" near Hilversum is part of Buitenplaats De Hoorneboeg, a magnificent property of 13 hectares with its own forest, ancient winding paths and a picturesque hill in the centre. The restoration of the two historic farms was completed in the spring of 2018 with the intention of creating an inspiring location to host retreats like yoga, mindfulness, meditation, healthy nutrition and philosophy.

 

The Buitenplaats offers now a vegetarian farm-to-table restaurant with its own garden (opening mid-October), a fine space for training and a place for cultural and social initiatives in a historic villa.
On the property, you can go wander through the winding paths or you can take a walk to the heath ("de Hei") or into the woods. You can stop and listen to the woodpeckers and the squirrels, admire the old trees or the openness of the magical hill in the middle of the property. It is a space to relax and just get away from the hectic pace of our daily lives. To connect with yourself, nature and each other.

 

The two farmhouses are connected to each other through a corridor and are solely used by the group for the yoga retreat. Both houses overlook the vast heath and lie on the edge of woodland. There is a large yoga room, a library with a fireplace stove, a spacious living room also with a fireplace and a spa with sauna and relaxation area overlooking the heath. There is a choice of single and double rooms on the upper floors, all with private bathroom! There is also a treatment room where you can book a massage from one of our expert therapist available on site.

How to get there?


The Hoorneboeg is very centrally located in the Netherlands. You can very easily reach the venue by car, using the exit Hilversum on the A27. Your visit starts with a peaceful ride through a kilometre long lane of trees along the heath and woodland which opens onto the 13-hectare estate. There is a dedicated parking lot on the side of the property. The rest of the estate is completely car-free and you can reach the farmhouses by a short walk from your car through the forest.

The area is also well served by public transport, with a bus stop at the beginning of the driveway (bus 58 from Hilversum). From here it is a nice walk along the heath and woods, about 10 minutes to the country estate. From the railway station in Hilversum, you can also bike 15 minutes to the Hoorneboeg (you can rent an OV-fiets at the railway station or bring your own on the train) or arrange for a taxi.
