Astanga Yoga: Exploring Back Bending
With Gibran Gonzalez
19 November 2016 See all dates
A workshop to give participants a deeper understanding of the benefits and mechanics of back bending so they can incorporate this knowledge into their daily Asana practice.
We will dive in the world of back bending and explore the balance between effort and surrender, lengthening and aligning the body in the right way in order to free the spine, using the legs, core and bandhas. Backbends require equal measures of control and strength and flexibility on the physical level as well as an open heart on the subtle level.
We will use breath and bandhas to explore different types of backbends, we will look at various restrictions that may be preventing us from opening the front of the body and finding ease in the postures. We will then work on ways to overcome these restrictions, leading towards freedom and success in postures like Urdhva Dhanurasana and beyond!
Beginners are welcome, though students should have some experience with Astanga Yoga.
