We are very happy to welcome Petri back in Amsterdam and The Hague, to experience directly the therapeutic effects of Astanga Yoga - from the hands of a great healer - and to learn more about pranayama, chanting, meditation, healing and hands-on adjustments!

Petri is a direct student of Sri K P Jois and R Sharath Jois and he is officially authorized to teach primary and intermediate series. He worked closely with his guru Sri K Pattabhi Jois, who authorized him to teach in 2001.


You will have a choice to join just the morning Mysore practices, or to follow the whole program, which covers 2 extra sessions every day after practice. A wonderful opportunity. All levels are welcome in the morning Mysore, but you should already be familiar with the Astanga yoga system. 


Thursday 7 November

6:30 - 10:00 Morning Mysore Practice (please choose your starting time here)

10:30-12:30 Philosophy, Chanting, Pranayama & Meditation

Discussion about the Astanga system, mantra chanting, light pranayama (breathing) and meditation (quiet sitting meditation).

14:00-16:30 Gentleness and softness in the asana and pranayama practice and asana adjustments - the safe way to practice Astanga Yoga

Astanga Yoga is a safe, effective and beneficial method…which all too often can become a painful, pressure-filled, stressful physical exercise. In this workshop, we will focus on the therapeutical aspects of the practice for the body and the mind; namely, how to release tension, stretch the body without pain and keep the mind in a peaceful, but awakened state.

Feeling comfortable and meditative during the practice will influence the level of calmness and health for life outside the practice and keep the Yoga in your life all the way to the end of days.

10:30-12:30 Kindness, Compassion and Forgiveness-natural authority (lecture and discussion), Pranayama & Meditation

Practice of kindness, compassion and forgiveness are powerful forces when they become established in your daily life. Giving selflessly is the answer to most of our life issues; also in the practice and teaching of Astanga Yoga.

14:00-16:30 Lengthening the body - how to create a maximum length for the limbs in the asanas. Asana techniques, tips and hands-on adjustments.

Originally a bone setting technique (a healing method) called “limb-lengthening”, which Petri modified for asana adjustments to create a maximum length for limbs. This will not only take you to the next level in the asana but also release the tensions and pains from the body. In this workshop, we are practicing how to find the space in a gentle and safe, but effective ways.

About Petri Räisänen

Petri Räisänen is an internationally known and respected Astanga Yoga teacher. He started practicing Astanga Yoga in 1988 and teaching in 1990. A devoted student of his Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, he was authorized to teach Astanga Yoga in 2001 by Guruji. Petri is careful to pass on his Guru's exact teachings.
