Exploring Perception through Meditation & Photography - Level 1

With Kimberly Poppe

Seeing and thinking are very different. Thinking relates to the world through ideas and mental images. Seeing perceives things directly, just as they are. We usually navigate our lives by thinking about where we are going, where we have been, what we are doing, what we hope for, and what we fear. This inner monologue overshadows most of our experience. Every now and then there are gaps in the flow of discursiveness where fresh perceptions shine through, but generally we gloss over them quite quickly. Learning to recognize and value these moments of fresh sense perception is what we will explore together in these special course.*

Each course will include:

  • the actual weekly class offering an opportunity to explore the perception focus for the week, time to meditate together as a group, as well as space to share photographs and experiences.
  • a suggested practice programme for the week in-between the classes including access to guided meditations on audio, a private Flickr group to share images, as well as practical tips, resources and advice.

No prior experience in meditation or photography is necessary, just an interest, curiosity and a digital camera (or camera phone)!
