Introduction to Astanga Mysore Workshop

With Lidewij Severins

Curious about the Mysore Style of practicing Astanga Yoga? Especially for those of you wanting to learn more about this self practice class, we offer this workshop that explains all you need to know about Astanga Mysore! You'll be taken through the details of breath, bandhas, drishti and vinyasa, and slowly introduced to the sun salutations and (the first) standing poses of the primary series. This way, you will feel confident to join the regular Astanga Mysore classes and build your own practice.

Mysore Style is the traditional way to learn the Astanga practice as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. The class is not “led” as a whole but rather each student receives a personalized guidance from the teacher individually, so that the practice is learnt slowly and progressively, while committing the sequence to memory. Each student practices the Astanga sequence of postures to their own ability and at their own pace. The teacher assists each student individually by giving physical adjustments, verbal instructions, and modifications if needed. You'll be learning the practice pose by pose, at your own pace and to your own capabilities.

This workshop welcomes students of all levels, no previous experience is required.
