Yoga Therapy: Transforming Patterns
With Janice Gates
Starting on 12 May 2019 Go to schedule
At the heart of yoga therapy is the profound practice of transforming patterns that no longer serve us so that we can live with more freedom, peace and joy. Join Janice for a day of seeing through the lens of a yoga therapist and learn how to transform patterns that create dysfunction in the body, limit our flow of aliveness, wreak havoc in our nervous system and, ultimately, disconnect us from our deeper nature. Includes simple, but potent practices for developing self- awareness and self-understanding and effecting lasting change.
Morning session 9.30 - 12.30
If we are not aware of the patterns in our bodies, we bring those patterns right onto the yoga mat where we can either unconsciously reinforce them or consciously transform them. Using our own bodies and key observation tools, we will shine a light on physical imbalances and dysfunctional movement patterns and learn practices for bringing balance. Includes dynamic and static asana and breathing practices. Mostly practice with an overview of essential supporting principles.
Afternoon session 14.00 - 17.00
Join me for a yoga therapy ‘lab,’ where we will use the framework of yoga’s Five Kosha (panchamaya) model of the human system to learn how to skillfully individualize yoga practices for healing, taking into account that the the physical body, the breath, the intellect, the personality, and the emotions are interconnected. Understanding how these different dimensions connect with and influence each other is central to yoga therapy’s role in the healing process. Includes movement, breathing practices, meditation, self-reflection and lots of engaging interaction - using the laboratory of our own bodies/minds/hearts for learning. For seasoned students and teachers. Attending both sessions is recommended, but not required.
