Would you like to become a yoga teacher? Or do you want to go deeper into your own yoga practice? In both instances our Delight Teacher Trainings could be for you.

Why a Delight Yoga Teacher Training?

It is from the own experience that a yogi can become a guide to other people Teaching yoga involves the knowledge of the physical postures (asanas), as well as understanding of the principles and philosophies that underlie the practice. This includes knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as the ability to modify and adjust the practice for different levels and abilities. But equally important is the ability to create a safe and inclusive environment, and being able to guide and support students on their personal journey of growth and self-discovery. Being a yoga teacher requires the ability to hold space and being able to create a safe and supportive environment for students to explore their own inner selves.

During the Delight's Teacher Trainings we teach yoga as a life practice. Living the principles and philosophies of yoga and cultivating qualities like compassion, humility, and equanimity, can help you to create a safe and supportive environment in your classes. It will also help you to enhance the quality of your own life. This is why our teacher trainings are not just for aspiring yoga teachers, but for everyone who wants to apply the wisdom of yoga into their life. When you are living the physical and mental benefits of the practice you can speak from personal experience and be able to better understand and support your others better. This will make you a teacher of yoga, in the yoga school and in your daily life.

Our experienced teachers will guide you Our highly experienced team of teachers is committed to providing you with an open and inspiring education, allowing you to uncover your own potential. We guide you in this process with a focus on honesty to yourself, respect for your own capabilities and boundaries, with humour and lightness but also with passion from our deep commitment to improve the world that we are inhabiting. Whereas Delight Yoga offers trainings in a variety of yoga styles, we stay true to the lineages of our own teachers and guide you in finding the path that works best for you personally. Asana (the physical postures) is where we start, but from the very beginning we bring the more subtle aspects of yoga and meditation into the trainings.

Our programs have already been running for many years under the guidance of Satya Katiza and Kevin Sahaj, as well as a handpicked team of experienced yoga practitioners. Satya has played a pivotal role in spreading the yoga teachings in the Netherlands since the late ‘90s. She has started offering yoga teacher training programs in 2000 and has since then continued to offer her programs in various formats according to the evolving needs of the students. Satya has been directing the Delight Yoga Teacher Training programs since 2012 and is now teaching together with her partner Sahaj.

Is a Delight Teacher Training for you? You have been practising yoga for a while and directly experience its benefits. Now you want to understand yoga better and share its gifts with others. This is what we often see happening to students after a few months or years. An interest arises in participating in a Yoga Teacher Training. Our students start wondering: What it is that makes yoga so special?

A Yoga Teacher Training is for anyone who wants to:

  • Establish your own practice at your own pace for your own needs, wherever you like
  • Better understand your energy body and learn how yoga can recharge your batteries
  • Learn more about the philosophical background of this ancient system
  • Learn how to share yoga with other people
  • Dive into a transformative process that will equip you with the tools to change your life
  • Find support and guidance in how to live and teach in our times

And if the answer is yes - are you ready to commit?

Embarking on a teacher training requires your full commitment Towards yourself and towards your practice. The practice has a physical component to it, but it mainly involves an inner process of getting to know ourselves inside out, thoroughly, developing our capacity to embrace every aspect of the self - the ones we like as much as the ones we don’t like. Practice requires time and patience. We recommend you be established in your own yoga practice first, before stepping into a teacher training program.

What is your motivation to join a teacher training? While it is possible to make a living as a ‘yoga professional’, the motivation to join this program should be broader than wanting a career change. Becoming a yoga teacher is not something that comes with a certificate, but through years of dedicated studies, practice and guidance. Drop your plans, and commit sincerely to the path of yoga. The rest will unfold naturally, in its own time. Teaching yoga rests upon a sense of duty and responsibility to share your inner calling with others.

FAQ

How experienced do I need to be to join your trainings? That totally depends on which training you want to follow. For the Basic Teacher Training, at least one year of regular practice is recommended. If you wish to join the Advanced Teacher Training (300 hours), you should have already completed a 200-hours teacher training (not necessarily with Delight Yoga), but you can also follow only some elements individually. Our retreats and 50-hour teacher trainings are open to both dedicated yoga practitioners and yoga teachers; each training will state clearly what the specific requirements are.

When can I start? The Basic Teacher Training takes place once a year from May - August The Advanced Teacher Training you can join anytime with whatever module or retreat you want to start with, although we recommend to finish it with The Mind retreat.

How do I prepare for your trainings? Any recommended preparation for each training is mentioned under the specific course. Please also make sure to read through the section ‘Why a Teacher Training’.

Will I be able to teach after the Basic Teacher Training? That depends on yourself. In principle yes, you will be provided with the necessary teaching skills to teach a basic yoga class for beginners. From our point of view, you can awaken the teacher inside yourself by sharing honestly from your own experience. You can only teach where you are at yourself, what you have fully integrated into your own regular practice. Sometimes even experienced students, realising the vastness of the ocean of yoga while following one of our trainings, decide to continue their own practice and training further before actually starting to teach. Other practitioners start teaching even before they have any formal 200-hours training.

I want to follow a training just for myself and not necessarily become a yoga teacher. Can I join your programs also? Yes, definitely. Actually, our training programs can be considered as 'live trainings' or 'yogic' trainings, so not only about learning how to teach yoga. Our programs are mainly about deepening your own yogic process and development, about establishing a steady practice that supports your lifestyle. From there, you can share authentically if you wish. Of course, you do get the skills to do so by following our programs. But this is really only a part of what you will take with you.

What is the retreat location for the Basic and the Advanced Teacher Training? The first two weeks of the Basic Teacher Training, as well as The Heart Retreat and The Mind Retreat which are part of the Advanced Studies, take place at D'Alijo Yoga Retreats Center in Portugal (1 hour from Porto). D’Alijo Yoga Retreats Center is a yoga retreat in the midst of beautiful Portuguese nature. It sprawls across three hectares of land consisting of terraces, olive field and hills with large rock formations. The accommodation consists of wooden chalet style houses, cabins or rooms which are tastefully decorated, positioned in rural parts of the grounds at walking distance from Yoga Studio, swimming pool and the main house. All rooms have outside verandas. The main house which is rebuilt with huge granite rocks from centuries ago is now the cozy “heart” of the retreat centre. Surrounded by large terraces and undisturbed views of the area and premises. The center offers a heated swimming pool, water features, and a peaceful meditation cave and the surroundings invite to tranquil walks.

I have a special diet. Can the retreat center accommodate my dietary needs? Yes, our retreat centers are selected with utmost care and they are able to accommodate a large number of dietary needs. All food is vegetarian. In case of (severe) allergies, please make sure to inform us in time so we can discuss the possibilities in advance with the retreat locations.

What do I need to bring to the training? One week in advance of the training or retreat, you will receive specific information on what to bring. Yoga mats and props are always available on location.

Are your trainings certified by Yoga Alliance? Yes, the Basic Teacher Training is certified by Yoga Alliance, so after completing it you can register as 'Registered Yoga Teacher 200' (RYT200) The Advanced Teacher Training is certified by Yoga Alliance, so after completing it you can register as 'Registered Yoga Teacher 500', assuming you have also followed a certified 200-hours training before (RYT500). Some of our 50-hour/100-hour programs count as YACEP points (Continuing Education Points) for yoga teachers. You can find this information in the respective program descriptions. However we believe that while an accreditation is important for many, the own experience is at least as important as the certification.
