Dennis was born and raised in Germany and used to work as an actor for more than 10 years. But before even realising it, the busy and demanding lifestyle has brought him on the road to burnout. On the search for healing, he started visisting an Ayurvedic doctor and dived deeply into the world of Ayurveda and Yoga. This experience completely changed the way he looked at these ancient practices: they are much more than just physical exercise, they are an inward journey with the potential of deep healing.
The wish to study and learn Yoga and Ayurveda from the source, made Dennis enroll in a 3 year long Iyengar Yoga teacher training – a traditional Yoga style which is very pure and alignment based. At the same time he was following a foundational course in Ayurveda. This has been a life changing experience: the seeds of the ancient teachings had been planted and started to grow. Dennis dived deeper into the art of Pranayama (breathwork) at Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute in India, and he continued his Ayurvedic studies with a nutrition course at Delight Academy Amsterdam. Dennis took courses on the ancient scriptures like the Upanishads, Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita with Edwin Bryant and Ram Dass. At the moment, he is studying Vedic counseling with Dr. David Frawley and Jyotish (Vedic astrology) at Dirah Academy.
Dennis’ classes are accessible to everyone. Everybody has different needs, and the postures can be adjusted accordingly – for example with the help of props like blocks or straps. Yoga is more than just asana (posture) – a fact that cannot be emphasized enough. Starting with the physical body, one proceeds to the subtle sheath of the breath and finally touches the even more subtle sheath of the mind, reaching awareness and mindfulness of the whole – this is the goal of Yoga.
“Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.“ – BKS Iyengar
