Meditation refers to a broad variety of practices where an individual trains the mind and induces a specific mode of consciousness. Meditation is often used to clear the mind and create internal relaxation and awareness. It includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy, develop compassion, love, patience, generosity and forgiveness. It usually involves an internal effort to self-regulate the mind in some way.
Meditation helps quiet the area that responds to stress. This allows us to experience highly stressful situations from a calm mindset and keeps us from devoting our attention to emotional triggers - finding greater peace and stillness within. It was found that breathing, an important component of yoga and meditation, affects the level of noradrenaline, which is the chemical affiliated with curiosity, engagement, and enthusiasm. When noradrenaline is released through breath, the brain forms new connections which enhance sustained focus. Even as short as 10 minutes of meditation each day has a significant effect on our concentration.
Most classes include a moment of Meditation but there are some classes that put emphasis on Meditation or Mindfulness:
Silent Sit Meditation class (online)
Monday to Sunday morning we gather together for a Silent Morning Meditation via Zoom. The first 15 minutes are guided and the remaining 30 minutes we will be together in Silence. The guidance will support us to be at ease and relax into the field of the body. This will set the tone for inquiry and contemplation into who or what we really are, at the core of our being.
Relaxation Meditation or (Yoga Nidra)
Yoga Nidra translates to sleep meditation and is a practice of conscious relaxation designed to release held tension in our body, mind and energy field. The practice of Yoga Nidra guides students into a state of deep relaxation, by progressively relaxing and releasing tension from each part of the body. This helps us to feel more open inside and is a great way to reverse the impact of stress.
Yin & Sound Meditation class
A deep relaxing experience merging two ancient practices: Yin Yoga & Sound Meditation. In this class, the teacher will use special Sound Bowls and other instruments to focus the mind on the sound and the subtle experience that healing frequencies create. Sound Bowls are connected to the ancient practices of chakra balancing. The strong sound vibrations created by the bowls travel through your layers of body tissue (fascia), inviting stagnant energy to be released.
We’ll be holding Yin poses for 3-5 minutes in order to stimulate the deep tissue to release, creating greater relaxations and harmonization of body and mind.
Mantra Circle - Special Class
Mantra meditation uses a 'mantra' to help steady the mind. A mantra is a sacred syllable or sound that has a powerful vibration. It is a gentle guided meditation using a sacred sound to help us connect to the deeper layers of our being. One of the purposes of using a mantra is to feel the subtle vibration, which helps to deepen our practice. The repetition of the mantra throughout the class helps us to disconnect from the thoughts that arise, and find a deep sense of peace within.
Yin & Mindfulness
Learn how to develop unconditional friendship with your body and mind by practicing mindfulness and awareness in your yoga and sitting practice. How can we use our life as a path of awakening? By relaxing the struggle for perfection and meeting ourselves and our world ‘as it is’. We all have natural wakefulness and inherent goodness that we can uncover. We practice meditation and yoga to come home to our bodies and minds in order to meet our inner radiance. We learn to take our seat and develop equanimity in relating to life both when it is comfortable and uncomfortable, painful and pleasurable. This is the power of our meditation and yoga practice. It gives us the strength to stay and regard everything that occurs as an invitation to wake up! We are training ourselves to experience things directly as they are with no filters. This creates space in our minds, hearts, bodies, relationships and lives. Each class consists of guided meditation, a short dharma talk, silent meditation, a yin yoga practice, where
