Prenatal Yoga

Support your mind, body, and baby in this transformative time

At Delight Yoga, we offer Prenatal Yoga classes and workshops guided by expert teachers in Amsterdam, Den Haag, and Online. Prenatal Yoga gives you the opportunity to embrace your changing body and support this process by practising meditation and yoga postures, in combination with breathing- and relaxation exercises and specific poses that can be used during delivery.

No Yoga in your First Trimester

Your pregnancy can be a beautiful, special time, providing an opportunity to turn inward and get in touch with yourself and the baby you are carrying. In a short period of time, the body goes through a great transformation, getting ready for birth. We offer two types of Prenatal Yoga classes that will support you during the second and third trimester of your pregnancy. If you are in your first trimester we advise you to NOT practice yoga.

Prenatal Yoga

A gentle class that focuses on relaxation and letting go. Soft stretching and light strengthening combined with calm breathing will help to relieve tension that accumulates during pregnancy as the body goes through a lot of change. It helps train the breath, body, and mind to relax.

Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga

An empowering class that will help you to create strength and stamina needed during this transformative time. By moving with your breath in a modified vinyasa flow, you’ll greatly increase your ability to connect with your inner strength in preparation of childbirth. The class always ends with deep relaxation.

Other yoga styles during Pregnancy

It is possible to practice other styles of yoga in the second or third trimester of your pregnancy, but please always let the teacher know that you are pregnant before the class starts. When practising in a regular class please be mindful and avoid deep twisting, deep backbends, breath retention and inversions. Being pregnant is a transformative and natural state in a woman’s life.

Your body is changing every day so it is an especially important time to listen and connect with your body, letting your body and heart guide you through your practice. Read more about the benefits of Prenatal Yoga.

Prenatal Yoga Teachers

Ombretta Dettori
De Clercqstraat, Amsterdam / Online
Ombretta is an Ayurveda Practitioner (Academy of Ayurvedic Studies) specialised in women's health, pregnancy and postpartum (Arya Ayurveda, India) and experienced in Pancakarma procedures (Yojana Ayurveda). She is also a Birth Doula (BIA Doula, Amsterdam) and an Ayurveda Postpartum Caregiver (Centre for Sacred Window Studies, California), an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher (200hrs YTT, Gregor Mahele and Monica Gauci) and a soon certified Yoga Therapist (The Yoga Therapy Institute, Amsterdam). Ombretta holds a Master Degree in Psychology and an HBO Level Degree in Medical Science. During her past corporate life she was an HR Manager and HR Business Partner, that which gives her a thorough understanding of organisational processes and dynamics. Ombretta is happy to share her love for Yoga and Ayurveda online and in-person within the warm community of Delight Yoga where she offers Ayurvedic consultations, massages and treatments as well as Yoga Therapy individual sessions and Ashtanga Mysore classes. Ombretta is also part of the teaching team at the Delight Ayurvedic Academy and forever student. She feels fortunate to be part of the Delight Family and to be able to keep on learning and sharing with them her immense love for transformational practices that unfold in a safe space. Yoga and Ayurveda entered her life almost at the same time. Applying slowly but steadily the principles of these two "sister sciences" into her daily life brought progressive changes that made space for what she needed the most: looking into herself and allowing "the new to settle. Since the very beginning she felt the call to visit Mysore - India – where she is committed to returning yearly to nurture her own practice under the guidance of R. Saraswathi Jois and R. Sharath Jois and many others generous and devoted teachers such as Dr. M.A. Jayashree, Sri. M.A. Narasimhan, VidwanLakshmish Bhat and Arvind Pare. Her curiosity for the therapeutic aspects of yoga exploded in 2015 when she met A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan (Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda), both direct students of Sri. T. Krishnamacharya. Wanting to become a C-IAYT Yoga Therapist she started her study at The Yoga Therapy Institute in Amsterdam. Gregor Mahele, Monica Gauci and Certified Ashtanga Yoga Teachers Eddie Stern and Luke Jordan represent a continued source of inspiration in approaching the yoga practice in a non-dogmatic way. In 2017 she moved to India for one year to study and practice under the guidance of exceptional Ayurveda physicians: Dr. Vijith Sasidhar, Dr. VidyaVijith, Dr. Shailesh Muli, Dr. Aiswarya Aishu, and also eventually met Dr. Amruta Athale. She loves simple things: the smell of freshly made coffee in the morning, crisp sunrises in the winter, strolls by the sea, cooking, reading and travelling the world (the one outside and the one within) and her furry friend Mia.
Kasia Pokrop
Nieuwe Achtergracht, Amsterdam / Online
Born and raised in Poland, Kasia left her home country at the age of 22. Starting her journey in Ireland, she continued to Belgium, Amsterdam, Singapore, and back to Amsterdam, where she found her new home. It was also here in Amsterdam where her yoga journey began. Daily practice of Astanga opened another world to Kasia. She became curious, wanted to learn more about the practice, where it is coming from and how she can share it with others. She followed 50hr Anatomy course with Jose de Groot in 2015, then joined workshops with Petri Räisänen, Ken the Rolfer, Edie Stern, David Swenson. She travelled to Rome to practice with Lino Miele, and when she was about to sign up for a teacher training to further deepen her knowledge about the practice, she got pregnant. The interesting thing is, it didn't stop her from anything. Instead, it helped her grow, become more humble, appreciate more what you can do rather than seeing what you cannot do, and most of all - enjoy the time of her pregnancy. Something she decided she wants to share with others as well. Following her mantra 'practice, practice, practice' she finalized Basic Teacher Training 200Hr with Claudia Pradella and Eva Ugolini, followed by Pregnancy and Birth Teacher Training with Birthlight, and around the same time she certified as a HypnoBirthing® Practitioner, The Mongan Method. Today she has a chance to share her passion for Astanga, and help women through pregnancy with prenatal classes, and HypnoBirthing® courses
Manda Rose
Weteringschans, Amsterdam
Manda's relationship with movement begin at the age of three... She used ballet and modern dance as a way to experiment and express herself as she traveled through her youth. Ballet gave her a deep understanding of the body but it wasn't until her very first yoga class that she was touched by the body's connection to the mind and soul. Traveling through this new found love she also begin to travel through the world. Leaving her home in America to discover a home with herself. Manda believes, through the practice of yoga we find our authentic selves and become in touch with what we truly are. Manda is inspired by anybody who is trying to make the world a better place by making themselves a better human being
Maggie Bijl
Scheveningseweg, Den Haag
Maggie Bijl was born on Earth Day (April 22nd 1980) in the midwestern United States. She is a true Taurus: reliable, practical, ambitious and fiercely loyal. Maggie’s creative nature and fearless spirit are what lured her into traveling the globe and living in Maui, Hawaii for nearly 15 years. Maggie had an ‘awaking’ to the delicacy of life (after her mother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer). Maggie began practicing yoga around the age of 20 years old, although this was not the first time she was introduced to yoga; and began living a more consciously awakened lifestyle. Maggie met a Professional Windsurfer (from the Netherlands) and soon they married on Maui surrounded by all their family and friends. Maggie's journey into the yoga/birth world began after the birth of her own baby in 2009. She experienced an incredibly powerful all natural homebirth with the love and support of her husband, a midwife, and a Doula. This transformation from maiden to mother literally changed her life’s path. Maggie received her certification in Prenatal Yoga having realized the undeniable importance of being an active participant verses a passive bystander in her own pregnancy + birth empowering women to trust and tap into their own inner strength and wisdom. Maggie is also a trained Birth Doula, supporting + educating women (and their partners) in a holistic pregnancy and birth. Knowing the importance of creating a safe, calming and nurturing environment for expectant mothers, in need of sisterhood + connection, Maggie became a certified Sacred Pregnancy Instructor having realized the undeniable importance of creating sacred space + community during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. After the birth of her 2nd baby, she continued teaching yoga and became passionate about uniting mother and baby though use of traditional yoga practices such as Pranayama (breath), meditation, visualizations and mantras (healing sounds) while incorporating mindful techniques she learned as a Doula. Maggie is very enthusiastic and passionate about learning as well as continuing her education and path of growth and of service… She is also trained by Nicki Doane + Eddie Modestini (Maya Yoga, Maui Hawaii) Nadia Toraman (Maui Yoga Shala, Maui Hawaii) and trained by Sadie Nardini (Core Strength Vinyasa). Maggie has recently completed a 50 Teacher Training with Sri Vijay Gopala from Yoga Gita in Leiden, Netherlands and is currently immersed in another 200 hour Vinyasa Teacher Training at Yoga Moves in Utrecht, Netherlands. The journey is endless for this passionate and driven spirit. Maggie’s main intention is to encourage ‘students’ to listen to their own bodies, to explore and take up space, and to find their own individual self-expression by living truly, madly and deeply with authenticity both on and off the mat. “Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?" Frida Kahlo Maggie, a wife and mother of two, has been a practitioner of yoga for over 15 years with experience in Hatha, Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Hot Yoga, Yin/Yang Yoga Yoga Barre and Prenatal & Postnatal yoga. She’s a certified Prenatal Yoga Teacher through Blooma (www.blooma.com) and trained in Core Strength Vinyasa created by Sadie Nardini (www.sadienardini.com). She’s a trained, certified and experienced Birth Doula as well as a Sacred Pregnancy Instructor and Sacred Postpartum ‘Mother Roaster’ and a member of the Scared Living Movement community (www.sacredlivingmovement.com)
